The Tila Tequila of New-Lit (?)
Since I started following him on Twitter (much like how so many liberals tune in to Rush) I thought I’d trackback to this little post of mine concerning the myth and rodentia of Tao Lin.

This is partly a response to David Carr’s mammoth muse on the state of the newspaper from Sunday.

Ian Christe and Mark Riddick are working on a book of black metal band logos. Can’t wait (or afford, I assume).

Alessandra Stanley. I took her piece on media twitterers as a lament for the decline of staid and monolithic old-guard newstalkers and the rise of a socially plateau’d and much more “available” media class. I still think that’s how it ended up. But now I see her as a proponent of change and a backer of portraying real-life grit in media. But not just. She has a nuanced, razor-sharp, and specific theory of how things should be. She is extremely wickedly smart. I think I have a new favorite media critic (SFJ fucking grates on me sometimes in the twitterverse, but godammit he is undeniable). This little post isn’t as well-written as I’d like, but meh.

If I was sent it from my aunt and uncle, it (seriously) must be worth looking into.

These Are Powers are playing the T-Rock on Sunday, with Gay Beast. A chance to get down future-stylee. They’re really nice people, too. The photo above is from this guy, who does amazing saturated fun event photothings.

But at least dreams are coming true. Thanks for showing me this, Ian.

I didn’t post the “Spencer Gets Pissed” video below in some TMZ/Perez Hilton celebrity schadenfreude - it was a show of support. Anthony Anzalone opened their L.A. concert with some poems (Anthony is no timid midnight journaler, note) and got heckled, hurled at, and shit on. And Moody doesn’t miss an opportunity to call them out on their hypocrisy and general fucking ignorance. He needs these crowds like a hole in the head, and he let’s them know. Example one, example two.

I cannot stop watching The Big Bang Theory. It’s hokey, whiney, and worsts of all, mathy and sciency. I got turned on to the show by this article, and watched it mainly because I knew nothing about Asberger’s. And I hated it. Two weeks later I’ve seen every episode, and after too much thought I’ve figured out why I can’t stop. In our present and sad moment of families living off credit cards and class size increases, this show presents a group of people who are in a place of security both financially and socially. They think they hate their lives, but never enough to change anything (because why would they?). Their biggest problem is either fearing women or having no tact in the pursuit of them. But they all do woo at one point or another. So the one thing they assume they’re unequivocally bad at still ends them in the black. In all other aspects of their lives they completely dominate; hard-working, professionally successful, oddly but awesomely dressed. I want their sweet, innocent, super fun lives all for my own! I want to be a prodigy at something so I can work at Caltech and read comics at night and have Halo night and Klingon Boggle night and hit on the blonde tart across the hall whilst exploring the machinations of crazy deep-space shit. They’re just not that funny, is all.
